Week 8

We chose drawing on the courts with chalk as our special treat for filling up the "Compliments Jar".  We had read a story by Sekiya Miyoshi called "The Happy Garden", the illustrations are beautiful and look like they are made with chalk.

Room 9 created our own happy garden on the bottom court.
Check out our photos.

Today we filled up our "Compliments Jar"...
We are very proud of ourselves!!!

To get a heart in our jar we had to make the right choices as a whole class!

We showed:
  • Kindness and empathy (Mattise)
  • That we could share in Discovery Time (Mattise)
  • Working together at our rotation tables
  • Managing ourselves
  • Sitting quietly (Neha)
  • Being good role models (Louisa)
Mia said "We like working together because we are a class family" :o)

Because we filled our jar we are now able to have a special treat to celebrate!
We can either have 10mins free time on the Junior Playground or 10mins drawing with chalk on the courts.
We would like our families to help us decide by putting our choice in the comments box below!

The most votes wins on Thursday!!!

We have started swimming this week, we have had lots of fun in the pool already.
Ms Olney thought she should mention how impressed she was by all of us bringing our swimming caps and a lot of us had goggles.
If you would like me to have a shower after I have been swimming could you please let Ms Olney know.
If you can help us on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday we would love you to join us :o)

Week 7

Welcome to our new friend Miquela...
We hope you have a great time in Room 9 :o)

It has been a busy week in Room 9, we have shown a lot of resilience and been very adaptable with lots of different teachers.  Ms Olney is very proud of us!

It was a bit funny coming to school in the evening for the child/parent/teacher meetings...we were a bit shy, but Ms Olney only had great things to say about us and all our learning.  Ms Olney has added some new youtube videos to our "Maths" page because most of us had counting backwards as one of our goals for maths.

This week we were learning about the letter "G"...

We discovered that we had collected a bucket of water on our deck when we had the rain during the week.  We didn't want to waste it since we are on an outdoor water ban, so we decided to use it in our school vegetable garden which fitted with our letter of the week focus.

It doesn't look like much but it was almost full.

We are off to the garden.
Wonder what we will find there...

Once we got to the garden we found some different things in there...

 Pumpkin

Mattise thought the sunflower looked sad and thirsty...
we decided it needed our help!

Healthy looking rhubarb

 Yummy tomatoes

We all had a turn at watering the sunflower and the tomatoes...unfortunately it wasn't enough to water the whole garden but we hope we made a little difference.

A special "THANK YOU" to our friends at Premier Preschool for lending us your big watering can.  It was great to see you over the fence as we were watering our garden!

When we got back to our class we organised our thoughts and ideas using De Bono's Thinking Hats...
Here is a link to find out more about the 6 Hats...

On Friday's we have "Show and Tell"...we can bring all sorts of things to show and tell.
This week we were working on being an
ACTIVE LISTENER...

WALT means We Are Learning To...

S.O.S means Signs Of Success

Do you think we have been successful in following our WALT???
We would love your feedback...leave us a comment!!!

Week 6

We have welcomed Caitlin and Isla to our class over the last few weeks.
We are sad to be saying "Haere ra" to Matthew, but it isn't goodbye, just see you later!!
We wish your family well on your new adventure xxx

This week in PE we have been using the comets, which we use instead of the shot put.

We know that we point our hand in the direction that we want the comet to go.

We push the comet like a "High Five in the Sky"... we love high fives in Room 9!

Week 5

Today we celebrated the start of Sea Week with our school.  Room 9 had a great time, we read books, wrote stories and loved dressing up, even the teachers got involved
We think Mr Schon made a great pirate...
...ahhhh me hearties!!!!
Luckily we were being well behaved at lunchtime and he didn't make us walk the plank!

Can you work out what we were??  There was a stingray, saltwater crocodiles, plenty of mermaids/sea goddesses, the ocean green & blue and a pirate.

Check out the Sea Week link to learn more about it!!!

Week 4

Wow, what a busy week we have had in Room 9...

On Tuesday we meet with Premier Preschool to share in some healthy food and fun games!

Thank you for letting us join you Premier Preschool!

On Friday we were very busy with Discovery Time
(Check out our photos on the Discovery Page)
then...

We did an activity about apples because this week we have been learning about the letter "A"...

We cut the apples up and ate them and while we were eating them we thought of lots of describing words...
juicy
crunchy
red
sweet
sour

We also identified the parts of an apple...
core
skin
seeds
flesh
stem
leaves

After lunch we went and paid a visit to our "Buddy Class" in Room 3.  They helped us come up with ideas of what we could dress up as for "Sea Week" next week.
